Forsake All And Follow Christ

You will forsake all, even father and mother, to follow the Lord Jesus Christ.

Who says of his father and mother, ‘I have not seen them’; nor did he acknowledge his brothers, or know his own children; for they have observed Your word and kept Your covenant. (Deuteronomy 33:9)

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. (Matthew 16:24)

  1. Yes, we are to forsake all to follow the Lord Jesus Christ even in Luke 14:26, it is written “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, … 28…….but I believe this to be a poor translation of the word hate. God is Love, and I’m sure it is better translated as meaning to love your father, your mother, your wife and children, “LESS” and pick up your cross and follow me. For Jesus is the Way the Truth and the Life, not our family. Father God loves His children. He knows best and He looks out after His own.

Bless God and He will bless you.

  2. Hi, Susan. I agree with you that the word hate used in this context doesn’t mean to despise but to be willing to separate yourself from your parents even risk being cut off from inheritance to follow Christ. In other words, when you make a commitment to God it will cost you something. You immediately become an enemy to the world and they will persecute you for no reason. The Lord will certainly take care of His own. Much blessings to you.
