Where are you Sharpening your Weapons of Warfare?

Do you know your weapons of warfare?

Historically, there were constant wars between nations to conquer and possess territories. The ancient weapons of war consisted of spears, javelins, bows and arrows which were used to injure or kill the enemy.fighter-jet-1013_640

These weapons are no longer used to fight a war in our present society, but are now employed in the sporting arena.

Our world used more powerful weapons such as guns, bombs, missiles, fighter jets. The military has the capability to target the enemy and wipe them out within the blink of an eye.

Even though the weapons of both the old and the new world are different, the enemy remained the same – man. Throughout the generation, men have been fighting each other for money and power. Hence, the war never cease because men have an inherent desire for power and authority.

God gave humankind power and authority in the beginning but as a result of deception their power was snatched away. Since then men have been trying to regain this authority, but they are fighting the wrong source for it.

As a matter of fact, we do not have to fight to reclaim power since God made provisions for us to regain it through the death and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ. The process of obtaining this power is so simple that most people disregard it as foolish.

Who is our real enemy?

Humans have not yet realized that Christ’s sacrificial work changed the nature of the warfare. It is no longer physical but spiritual because Christ conquered the real enemy in the spiritual realm because the enemy is spiritual.

However, this spiritual enemy is persistent, so he released his demonic spirits in the heart and mind of men so that we will continue to fight and kill each other in the flesh. It is a dirty strategy that he has been using, and it appeared to be working.

We need to reorganize, get our thoughts together and remind ourselves of the location of the warfare and the type of weapons that we need to be using so that we can aim them at the real enemy – Satan.

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. (2 Corinthians 10:3-6)

According to the above scripture, our weapons are not physical but are found directly in God to pull down strongholds. The weapon that is found in the mouth of Jesus Christ is the two-edged sword which represents the Word of God. These words when spoken are powerful enough to tear down the spiritual strongholds of Satan.

The chief spiritual strongholds that Satan erected over our lives are pride, deception, lust, and fear. All other sins resulted from these. Pride exalts itself against the knowledge of God and it leads to disobedience.

God takes pleasure in our obedience to Him because disobedience is like the sin of witchcraft and His words pronounced judgment upon this sin. Therefore, we need to punish every rebellious thought by destroying the spirit of pride from our lives.

God rejected King Saul because of disobedience. Consequently, his life was plagued with misfortunes. There was a time during his reign when there was no blacksmith in the entire country of Israel to make weapons of war.

Are you sharpening your weapons in the right place?

The Israelites were constantly at war with their enemies – the Philistines – so they needed weapons. As a result, they had to use their farming instruments such as plowshares, mattocks, sickles, axe, and forks as their weapons.

However, these tools were too dull to be effective, so they had to go into the Philistines’ (the enemy) country to sharpen their weapons. Of course, the enemy charged them a fee. How can you succeed in warfare when you are dependent upon the enemy for sharper weapons? (1 Samuel 13: 19-23)

A similar scenario is happening right now in the Church. Many people lack the knowledge of who their real enemies are so they are sharpening their makeshift weapons in Satan’s camp by encouraging his evil spirits such as pride, fear, disobedience, stubbornness in their lives.

If you are practically cohabiting with the enemies, there is no way that you can destroy them.

Be wise God’s people, get your real weapons from God: These are humility, love, joy, peace, obedience. Receive them into your heart and life, and the enemies must flee from your presence.
